went to las vegas this past weekend with some old college buddies. it must be a slow season right now because i have never seen las vegas blvd so devoid of people. i suppose it's more advantageous to go during slow periods because there are definitely less families and it's easier to navigate on the strip.

view of primm from the 15 inside our chevy impala rental

cactus garden near mccarran airport

ethel m chocolate factory in las vegas....slightly disappointing

inside our hotel room at the venetian...wifi was not free!

another view....quite spacious

some casinos already had their chinese new year decorations in place...this was in the area leaving the venetian and entering the palazzo

the bellagio also had their own oriental decor out in full fashion

the new city center wasn't finished last time i went to vegas....the architecture ranges from quirky to uber modern and the main casino in aria is unlike all other casinos on the strip in that it is arranged and decorated like a casual urban lounge

the graveyard $5.99 steak and eggs special at harrah's....should be avoided....however, the $9.99 prime rib special at hooter's is pretty decent

the bellagio buffet was pretty good...the fish was pretty fresh

the carnival buffet at the rio has a much larger selection than the bellagio and is cheaper but the food is not quite as well prepared

about 15 miles northwest of vegas is red rock canyon state park

moutains near the village of blue diamond

red sandstone mountains...there were quite a few people rock climbing

a view from behind

there was some snow at higher elevations...the snow was hard like ice

something something canyon that looks like helm's deep from lord of the rings

quite a nice diversion from the strip
