New years 2009-2010 weekend

.. 2010 HAS LANDED! Here's a review of my 5-day New Years weekend that took place about 3 weeks ago. Just been busy and lazy to write one up until now. Just a glimpse of the wild rave scene nite-life & culture, that me & johnnyball are into ;)

For those who don't know, there are 2 big raves that take place every year in city of Los Angeles, CA. First one up is "Together as one" (aka TAO, all ages) and the second one is "Giant Maximus" (21+)(circus themed). TAO brings in 60,000+ people and GM 10,000+ people on average. Both with AMAZING electronica talent from around the globe. A lot of big name DJs' make sure to be in Los Angeles, CA for new years! Some even spin at different events all in the same nite. Kaskade went straight to San Diego after TAO and spun at another NYE party too. Sometimes DJs fly in private jets to other states after one event, to play @ another party in the same nite. Pretty awesome stuff!

Afterall, the state of California has thee biggest rave scene in America. (san francisco and los angeles) (norcal + socal). Constantly with massives (40,000+ people raves) every couple of months. This was one BIG weekend to go all out and party hard. Took thursday-monday off work. 5 days total. First 4 days was paid-time-off. Rooms booked at a nearby motel, walking distance to the LA sports arena, all set and planned.

Spent most of the weekend in LA and sunday nite - monday morning in San Diego. Lots of driving. Really glad to see some friends from out of state that we met @ halloween weekend 2009. Deinitely party buddies for life. It sucks they only come out for cali massives but it's all good. A plane ticket itself is expensive. Onto the vids :

Seems like a lot of people were more excited for Markus Schulz (BIG trance DJ) then guetta. Guetta definitely has people talkin smack. He's seen as very mainstream, commercial, does collaborations with rap/hiphop artists, and is a "sell out". Also because he's not "electronica" enough. He is viewed as kinda out-of-place at a rave by a lot of people. Love a couple of his new songs but certain songs should stay in the club, and shouldn't be played at a rave. Agreed by most people.. Hearing him at TAO was like hearing 102.7 KIIS FM with their top 40 hits, if we wanted to hear that stuff we would've gone to a club. Can't believe he played "Shots - Lil Jon" and Apple bottom jeans (mashup). That kinda disapointed and piss off a lot of people. Hell, people even walked away from his set cuz of it! His mixing/transitioning with songs aren't impressive and he mixed in the lyrics "I'm David Guetta Bitch!" a lot... Seems kinda full of himself.

But as always, I try to see things from all perspectives and try be optimistic & on the positive side.. That's what makes a wise person. Just wish he had a better song selection. Wish he put some of his older songs in. The fact that's he's too mainstream doesn't bother me at all. But I know for some people it does. Really glad he played "Memories" (great song) (played a special version of it for the first time ever too), and of course "Love is gone". Overall he was OK.

Was inside for the countdown. One of my friends from out of state confessed her love for me and we kissed. Don't think it'll work out due to several reasons. But that's a whole different story.

.. Alright onto Markus Schulz!!! a HUGE EPIC name in progressive-trance music.. Put your hands up! Currently ranked #8 in 2009's DJ MAG's top 100 list. Really don't need to say much for this man, he's just absolutely AMAZING, ELECTRIFYING and always delivers. Never fails to dissapoint. He plays a good selection of classics and some of his own productions. Its truly beyond words... In a interview, he says he's aiming for a summer 2010 release for his new album. Hopefully by EDC in june. And hopefully he'll be there ...and if does a solo world-tour. I'm sure his events will be sold-out. Definitely will be buying pre-sale tickets along with all the other trance heads!

Kaskade opening in the arena - walkin there at 10:50pm to catch his set @ 11pm was a BLUR.. was just too outta it. All I remember was trying to get into the balcony to look down on the floor but the doors were blocked off by security cuz of max-capacity & over flooding of people on the 2nd story, so we ended up on the dance floor. What a truly breathtaking view.. on the balcony, looking down onto the dance floor. With a sea of thousands & thousands of people and lights everywhere..

Kaskade crowd surfing!

.. Pretty CRAZY & INTENSE fun weekend! Gotta burn off all that fast-food & stuff. By the way, there's a mall in LA called the crenshaw mall or something like that, that has a 2-story walmart inside the mall, weird but awesome. Kinda ghetto too. But it's all good. They got a bombass international buffet inside called "Downtown buffet" / end randomness, haha. Hope everybody's new years went well ... until next time!
